
Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards' office says the campaign to recall New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell has fallen well short of the signatures needed to call an election.
The petition drive only gathered 27,000 valid signatures, according to the governor's office.
More than 44,000 were needed to force a recall election.
According to the statement from the governor, more than 67,000 signatures were gathered. The registrar invalidated nearly 40,000 signatures on the petition.
