New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell today addressed residents' fears of crime after a poll found only 35 percent of New Orleanians saying they feel safe in the city.

"People are concerned about violent crime," Cantrell said at a news conference where she talked about the city's crime-fighting and crime-prevention initiatives. "So we're here today to say not only 'we hear you,' but we're concerned as well."

Cantrell said her administration has spent $25 million on youth mentorship programs, recreation resources, and employment programs.

"Nothing stops a bullet like a job," the mayor said.
