New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell says she has settled up with Uncle Sam.
She tells the editorial board of the Times-Picayune | The New Orleans Advocate that she paid about $35,000 to the IRS.
The mayor had owned the feds about $95,000 in back taxes, but says she and her husband successfully appealed and saved about $60,000.
The paper reports that Cantrell no longer owes back taxes to the Internal Revenue Service, according to a federal tax database.
"We are in a great position as it relates to the Internal Revenue Service," the mayor said. "I moved forward with (an appeal), and it worked out in our favor... I do not owe any back taxes now."
