Members of the New Orleans Police Department’s Fatality Section are investigating a traffic accident that left a 74-year-old male dead.
The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of family members. The accident occurred in the 13800 block of Chef Menteur Highway.
At approximately 6:24 pm, Seventh District officers responded to a call of a body lying on the ground of the eastbound lanes of the highway.
When officers arrived, they observed the victim had been struck by the driver of an unknown make and model vehicle that fled the scene.
Emergency Medical Personnel pronounced the 74-year-old male dead on the scene.
The accident remains under investigation. Blood and alcohol tests are pending.
