Coronavirus pandemic mitigation measures mulled in NOLA, say city officials

NOLA

Skyrocketing new cases of coronavirus could lead to reinstatement of mask rules and other mitigation efforts, city of New Orleans officials said today.

"We are looking at potential additional mitigation measures that may become necessary," said New Orleans Mayor's Office spokesman Beau Tidwell. "We want to be clear that all options are on the table."

Tidwell said the recent data on the pandemic are startling.

"We're going to do everything we can to get that back under control," Tidwell said.

Mayor LaToya Cantrell's office continues to urge anyone who is eligible to be vaccinated against COVID-19 but hasn't done so yet to get the shots. Tidwell said more than 99 percent of fatalities due to the disease have been among unvaccinated individuals.
