Does the NOPD need a change in leadership? One New Orleans city council member is reiterating his call for to replace Shaun Ferguson.

Council vice president J.P. Morrell calls a Ferguson good cop, just not the one the city needs now.

"That doesn't mean they're the chief of the moment. And right now the moment that is facing this city is beyond the chief," Morrell told WWL's Tommy Tucker. "We need a national search for an innovative chief who's going to come down here and solve problems."

Morrell said Ferguson's leadership has also not helped retain officer.

"When they had the survey done a month ago on why people were leaving the department, less than a quarter said it was pay, the vast majority said it was morale," Morrell said. And he says that morale problem is causing the department to shrink.

"Using the most conservative attrition numbers that we currently have, by the end of this year, we'll be down to 890," he said. "That is absolutely an indictment on the leadership of the police chief."
