The New Orleans District Attorney's office confirms one of the suspects arrested today in Monday's the deadly carjacking of Linda Frickey once faced charges in New Orleans as an adult.

The previous D.A., Leon Cannizarro, had charged the teen as an adult in an aggravated burglary case. But when Jason Williams took over as D.A., the charge ended up dropped. The D.A.'s office says it was because the victim in the case did not want to proceed.

"The victim was a family member," said Curtis Elmore, Director of Communications for D.A. Williams. "The family member requested that the DA’s Office not proceed with the charge."

The charge was nolle prossed, a legal term meaning that prosecutors no longer wanted to pursue the case.

As for the crime that took Linda Frickey's life, D.A. Williams released the following statement:

"What occurred to 73-year-old Linda Frickey was heinous and unthinkable. I can’t help, but think of my own mother and other elders in our community. While we will allow the NOPD to complete a thorough investigation, any and all persons that the evidence shows participated in the murder of this elder will be prosecuted to the absolute fullest extent of the law. I am also renewing my call to the mayor and city council to immediately approve the disbursement of COVID-19 federal funds already at City Hall which were requested by the DA’s Office, along with other law enforcement and nonprofits three months ago at the start of this crime surge. These requests were made to effectively meet the challenge of this current crisis. I will ensure we do our part to fully prosecute anyone that the evidence shows was responsible for this and other horrific violent acts, but we need more resources to deal with this unique surge. We cannot delay deploying these funds sent to our city for this very purpose while the public is being preyed upon."
