Deputy shoots suspect in Tangipahoa Parish

Troopers are investigating after a deputy shot a suspect in Independence Thursday night.

"On May 8, 2025, at approximately 8:20 p.m., detectives with the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations were requested by the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office to investigate a deputy-involved shooting that occurred on Labruzza Lane near LA Hwy 40 in Independence," Trooper Marc Gremillion said in a news release.

He says one suspect was wounded.

"One suspect was shot and has been transported to a local hospital for treatment. No deputies were harmed during the incident."

Gremillion says it remains an active investigation.

"Additional details will be released as they become available."

State Police want anyone with information, photos, or videos related to this incident to contact LSP Detectives.

"Tips may be submitted anonymously through the Louisiana State Police online reporting system at www.lsp.org by clicking 'Report Suspicious or Criminal Activity,' or by calling the LSP Fusion Center Hotline at 1-800-434-8007."

Witnesses say it appears the Tangipahoa SWAT team had responded to the home amid reports of another crime having been committed at the home.

The Tangipahoa Sheriff's Office initially released very limited information.

"SCENE ALERT- TPSO is currently conducting an investigation on Labruzza Lane in Independence," TPSO posted without offering details.
