Edwards: "Seriously Considering" mask mandate

In an address this afternoon, Governor John Bel Edwards has told the people of Louisiana he is considering a mask mandate.

It comes as the state sees skyrocketing numbers of mostly unvaccinated individuals catching COVID, and driving up statewide COVID hospitalizations and death.

"In light of the trends and developments, I can tell you I have received, over the last 24 hours or so, numerous requests from hospitals and healthcare organizations and other entities to reinstate a statewide mask mandate," Edwards said. "This is something that I am seriously considering."

The Governor said he will take the weekend to review CDC information before making a decision.

Meanwhile, over-worked and rapidly filling hospitals are asking the Governor to implement a mandate that Louisianans mask up.
"Delta has swept across this country," Dr. Joe Kanter says. "Delta is more transmissible, more virulent, than anything we have seen."
