Election Day information for voters

There are races or ballot issues in 31 parishes today.

On election day, the polls are open from 7:00am - 8:00pm.

Races include the New Orleans Mayor, City Council, Sheriff and other municipal positions and issues. There is also a special election for Slidell Mayor, Lafitte Mayor. A number of tax propositions and other matters are also on the ballot in some parishes.

The Louisiana Secretary of State's office says, "Be prepared to show a photo identification card with your photo and signature or a United States military identification card that contains your name and picture when voting."

Acceptable ID includes:

-A driver's license;

-A Louisiana Special ID;

-LA Wallet digital driver's license;

-A United States military identification card that contains your name and picture; or some other generally recognized picture ID that contains your name and signature.

If you do not have a photo ID, you may vote by affidavit after correctly answering identifying information before voting.

What is banned at polling places?

"When voting, never wear, hand out, or display anything advocating for or against any candidate, proposition, or political party appearing on the ballot in the election. All polling places have a 600 foot campaign free zone."

If no candidates in a given race get more than 50% or the vote, there will be a November 15th runoff.
