Seventeen Entergy customers have sued the company and its electric utility subsidiaries Entergy New Orleans and Entergy Louisiana claiming there was "grossly inadequate maintenance and inspection" of the power transmission system that failed during Hurricane Ida, WWL-TV reports.

The report cites court documents in which the plaintiffs claim Entergy's lines "would not sustain even a hurricane with wind gusts below 100 miles per hour."

The suit seeks to block Entergy from collecting a surcharge or higher rates from customers in order to recoup the cost of repairing Hurricane Ida damage.
