Fire in a unoccupied Gentilly Home spread to neighboring houses and cars.

NOFD says the Friday night blaze broke out around 8:00pm.

"The first-up engine company arrived at the intersection of Painters and Madrid Streets, finding a single-family dwelling almost completely involved in flames," according to Captain Edwin Holmes.

He says flames were already extending to neighboring occupied homes.

"After questioning neighbors, it was determined that the original fire building (6040 Painters St.) was unoccupied."

It took 17 NOFD units with 46 Fire Operations personnel to bring the fire under control at 9:18pm.

"The original fire building, 6040 Painters St., was almost completely destroyed in the fire. The occupied single-family dwelling to the immediate left, 6034 Painters St., received extensive damage and had at least two vehicles destroyed by this fire. Homes at 6100 Painters St. and 2524 Madrid St. received mild to moderate damage."

Holmes says no one was hurt and the cause is under investigation.
