Partners Bill Hoffman and Paul Flower with Woodward Design + Build had big dreams when in 2021 they purchased the shuttered Lindy Boggs Hospital.
Their dream was converted the site into a continue care facility for elderly patients.
With this as their goal, the two worked obtain federal funding for the structure that had stood abandoned since Hurricane Katrina.
Now the time has come for the two institute their Plan B.
They have placed Lindy Boggs on the market.
"One of the main reasons we got involved with this property was its right down the street from our office... we wanted to renovate it and take the blight out of the neighborhood," Hoffman told WWL-TV.
Facing setbacks they never could have imagined just trying to get their funding request from the Department of Housing and Urban Development because the property sits in a flood zone have been almost insurmountable.
Hoffman says the plan to resurrect the property cannot move forward without that government money.
Hoffman and Flower put the property up for sale to see what other opportunities could be considered for the site.
They hope another developer might come along with access to more money to take on such a large project.
Located along the Lafitte Greenway the former Mercy Hospital is one of a lot of buildings in the area left abandoned after the flooding of Hurricane Katrina.
After being left seriously flooded with water damage and a flooded basement, Tenet Healthcare sold the property.
Plans to resurrect the site as a food distributor, a cardiovascular unit, and a memory center panned out.
Hoffman promises the two are still "aggressively pursuing HUD financing," and that it is a "slow and long process."
McEnry Group is managing the potential sale of the site.
