Two days after Louisiana State Police issued a warrant for his arrest, a former LSU wide reciever was behind bars.
"Kyren Lacy, 24, was booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex at 6:53 p.m. on Sunday, January 12, 2025," Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Captain Brennan Matherne said in an email.
Jailers booked Lacy on charges for Louisiana State Police including negligent homicide, felony hit and run, and reckless operation of a vehicle.
Troopers announced on Friday afternoon an arrest warrant for Lacy.
Lacy was LSU’s second leading receiver in 2024 and declared for the NFL draft last month after three seasons with the Tigers.
State Police say on December 17th in Lafourche Parish, Lacy recklessly passed multiple vehicles at a high rate of speed while in a designated no passing zone.
Investigators say the driver of a pickup truck swerved to the right to avoid a head-on collision with Lacy’s Dodge Charger Highway 20.
The say another driver behind the pickup swerved to avoid Lacy, crossed the centerline and collided head-on with another vehicle.
Lacy allegedly drove around the crash and fled.
A passenger in one of the vehicles died.
He’s been identified as 78-year-old Herman Hall of Thibodaux.
Lacy played his first two years of college football at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
The former Thibodaux High standout caught 58 passes for 886 yards and led LSU in touchdown receptions with nine. He was expected to be a mid-round selection before news of his criminal charges came out.
Lacy’s agent released a statement on Friday afternoon that said:
“We are aware of the allegations that have been made regarding Kyren Lacy, and we want to take this opportunity to address them. First and foremost, Kyren is fully cooperating with the authorities. We strongly believe that the facts will ultimately demonstrate the truth, but we respect the need for a full and thorough investigation.”
