Organizers with one of New Orleans’ largest free music festivals, the French Quarter Festival, announce they are postponing the event to the fall.
The event music festival was planned for April but organizers say because of the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic, they have rescheduled the event.
Emily Madero, FQFI CEO explains to WWL-TV, “Coming into the New Year we are looking at the public health atmosphere and we are just not confident that it is going to be safe for us to host a massive event in April.” She adds, “We’ve made the discussion to push French Quarter Festival back to September 30 to October 3rd.
Last year’s French Quarter Fest was also postponed then ultimately canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We’re going to remain flexible and continue to work in tandem with our community leaders and make sure that we have an event that keeps in mind social distancing and masking and some things that still may be required,” said Madero. “We want to make sure that people can spread out and feel safe, and we are looking into potentially reducing our footprint slightly.”
