Jackson, Mississippi, police say they have arrested the girlfriend of the prime suspect in the case of a murdered mother and daughter from Loranger.
According to Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade, authorities arrested Victoria Cox, 32, as an accomplice to Daniel Callihan. During a Friday press conference, Wade did not say what Cox's alleged role in the murder and kidnapping was. Authorities are expected to announce the charges against Cox and Callihan later on Friday.
The FBI is now the lead agency investigating the deaths of Callie Brunett and her four-year-old daughter Erin. Callihan allegedly murdered Callie Brunett inside her Loranger home before kidnapping Erin and her six-year-old sister Jalie and taking them to Mississippi. Authorities later caught Callihan in Jackson when they found Brunett's stolen car. Jalie was found alive in the back seat of the car. Police say Callihan then led them to a wooded area where they found Erin's body.
During the press conference, Wade referred to Callihan as a "horrible person" and "a coward." Wade added that the experience of finding Erin Brunett's body shook both him and the young officer who first discovered her remains.
