Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards today announced Louisiana residents 65 and older will soon be able to get the coronavirus vaccine.
"Because supply of the vaccine doses to our state has also increased, I feel much more comfortable about going down to age 65 and above," Edwards said today.
Although federal officials last month said people 65 and older should be eligible to get vaccinated, Louisiana had held to age 70 and above, citing limited supply of the vaccine.
The governor today also announced state and local first responders will be eligible, as are workers in the upcoming March and April elections.
The new eligibility rules begin Monday.
