With the jobs outlook continuing its comeback after the COVID-induced downturn, how can Louisiana best position itself for the future of work?
GNO Inc.'s Michael Hecht told Newell Normand on WWL Radio that the longterm plan must start with the kids, and he highlighted some upcoming legislation that could aid in making sure the state's students are poised to prosper.
"The basic idea is to raise the number of students who are taking computer science," Hecht said of the state bill.
"We've got this issue here, and it's an opportunity," he continued, "but Louisiana is top 5 in the country in growth in software jobs, but we're bottom 5 in terms of high schools that are offering computer science, and we've obviously got to fix that mismatch."
Hecht said one possibility the bill would provide would be counting computer coding classes under the state's foreign language requirement.
