Can the Saints earn a 3-0 record for the first time since 2013? They will be put to the test Sunday when they face a quarterback who has consistently gashed them in the past.
"You get out of your lane with Jalen Hurts, he can make some big plays on you," said WWL NFL Analyst Mike Detillier. Detillier said that has been the key to the Eagles beating the Saints two out of three times since 2020.
"In the two games he's played against the Saints, he's rushed for 175 yards," said Detillier, noting that Hurts' passing against the Saints in those games averaged only 157 yards.
So how do the Saints stop him?
"If they can run the football," Detillier said. "That's been the biggest surprise for the Saints: they're ability to control the line of scrimmage and run the football."
Do that, and they can keep Hurts off the field as much as possible. And when he is on the field, put a player on him who can counter his skills.
"One of the things (the Saints) did in the off season was go out and acquire Willie Gay from the Kansas City Chiefs," Detillier said. "He's one of the big acquisitions in the off season because of these type games."
