It's termite time in south Louisiana

Have you noticed the termites yet? It's swarming season.

Male and female termites are off looking to start a new colony, says termite expert Dr. Aaron Ashbrook at the LSU Ag Center.

"The males and females will pair up," he explained. "The males will typically do a tandem run with the female and eventually they will mate."

And Dr. Ashrbook said they typically swarm after heavy rain events -- like we had last week.

"We're thinking it might be a large swarm upcoming here soon," he said.

It's normal to see a termite or two inside when they're swarming, but if you have a swarm of them indoors, coming out of your walls, you need to call an exterminator.
