Gov. Landry announces commission to create memorial to New Year's Day terror victims

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry announced Wednesday a commission to create a permanent memorial to the victims of the New Year's Day attack on Bourbon Street.

The French Quarter Terrorism Attack Memorial Commission, whose members have yet to be selected, will meet monthly and deliver its recommendation within on year.

"Through a permanent memorial, we will honor their lives and create a lasting place of remembrance, resilience, and unity for years to come," said Gov. Landry.

The commission will be housed in the governor's office and will be comprised of:

·        Five victims or family members of victims (other victims or victims’ families will serve as ex-officio members).

·         The First Lady of Louisiana, or her designee

·         The Senior Coordinator for Victims Advocacy in the Office of the Governor (who will serve as Chair)

·         The Lieutenant Governor, or his designee

·         The President of the Louisiana State Senate, or designee

·         The Speaker of the House of Representatives, or designee

·         The Mayor of New Orleans, or her designee

·         The New Orleans City Council President, or her designee

·         A resident of the French Quarter

·         A business owner in the French Quarter

·         A law enforcement officer
