New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell today offered an explanation for why she made an obscene gesture at a rider on one of the Krewe of Tuck's floats last month.
"When one of the floats passed by, I was flipped the bird," Cantrell said during her weekly press briefing.
The mayor said she took the gesture as being aimed not at her, but at the entire city.
"It was a shot, in my opinion, not at me directly, but the city of New Orleans, and I'm the mayor of the city. I represent the city," Cantrell said.
That is why, said Cantrell, she responded in kind: "I just had to go ahead and just do a little bird flip and say 'I love you.'"
