Two days after state health officials confirmed a measles case in the New Orleans area, the Louisiana Department of Health says they have identified a second measles case in the metro area.

According to our partners at NOLA.com, LDH says the patient is an adult who "traveled abroad." Louisiana Surgeon General Ralph Lee Abraham said the patient was not sure of his/her measles vaccination status.

Abraham says the case is "not infectious at all" and that LDH's contact-tracing program led to the department confirming the case.

Despite LDH officials issuing an order to department employees not to promote vaccines or vaccination events earlier this year, Dr. Abraham is urging Louisiana residents to vaccinate their children against measles and to vaccinate themselves if they never received the measles/mumps/rubella vaccine.
