The Louisiana State Police say they have arrested Matthew Mire, 31, who is accused of fatally shooting 19-veteran Master Trooper Adam Gaubert on Saturday.

Troopers and the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office say Mire ambushed Trooper Gaubert in the area of a shooting where Mire is a suspect in that investigation in Prairieville.

They say Mire’s shooting spree spans multiple parishes. He is accused of injuring four people in shootings at two separate homes in Livingston and Ascension Parishes.

A multiple agency manhunt for Mire was underway through Saturday night. Mire was apprehended in a wooded area he fled in on foot after crashing the stolen truck.

Speaking at a media briefing late last night, Ascension Parish Sheriff Bobby Webre said Mire did not surrender easily.

"Listen, you don't get him to come out," Webre told a reporter during a press conference Saturday evening. "You go in there and get him. He didn't come out. He ran all day long. With the information that we had, with the number of personnel in the woods, with support from the air, support from the ground, support in the water— We were able to flush him out. He didn't give up. We had to get him."
