A Thibodaux man is dead after he was struck by a truck while he was riding a lawn mower.
The crash happened around 10 a.m. Friday on LA 1 near Richland Drive just outside of Thibodaux city limits.
According to state troopers, Larry Helm was crossing LA 1 on the riding mower when a dually pickup truck hit him. Investigators say the driver of the truck swerved and hit his brakes to avoid a crash, but to no avail.
Helm, 77, died at the scene. The driver of the truck and his two passengers were not injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
