Mardi Gras expert Arthur Hardy says he is optimistic Mardi Gras parades will roll again in New Orleans after seeing Krewe of Boo on Saturday.
“If there was any negative thing, I certainly haven’t heard about it. The crowds were large, the disappointing thing was the last-minute route change…they didn’t get to do Canal Street. But I think it portends well for Mardi Gras parades,” Hardy said to WWL’s Tommy Tucker.
“Now, we will see what those results of the little medical survey are in a couple of weeks. If a lot of people caught COVID there (Krewe of Boo)...which I highly doubt... but I guess we will find out,” Hardy added.
The late Blaine Kern helped form Krewe of Boo, New Orleans’ only Halloween parade.
Hardy says New Orleans Police staffing issue prompted the city to cut short the parade route at the last minute.
“In any case, that is what is driving all of this is... do we have enough police to handle all of the parade routes? And, if not, are there creative solutions,” said Hardy.
