The city of New Orleans today responded to videos, pictures, and accounts that the mayor wasn't wearing a mask for much of her ball at Gallier Hall over the weekend.

Despite several eyewitness accounts from guests at the Ball and the videos, Mayoral Spokesperson Beau Tidwell says Mayor LaToya Cantrell only removed her mask occasionally during the Mayor’s Mardi Gras Ball.

“The mayor removed her mask at certain instances to eat, drink, and take photos,” Tidwell explained.

He says the mayor and administration need to do a better job of leading by example when it comes to the mask mandate.

The city’s mask mandate and vaccine requirement will remain in effect for at least another week as Carnival continues across the city.

“The vaccine requirements, the testing requirements, and the masking mandate will remain in effect,” said Tidwell.
