The United States is celebrating its 249th year. That means food, freedom, fun, and, of course, fireworks.

So where can you find them? The answer: All around you. You just have to know where to look.

Fireworks and Celebrations in the New Orleans Area

City Park 3rd of July Celebration

WHEN: July 3rd, New Orleans City Park's Great Lawn

The festivities begin at 6 pm with music by the Marine Forces Reserve Band and culminate with fabulous fireworks atop the Peristyle at 9 pm. Free.

Uncle Sam Jam

WHEN: July 3rd, Metairie's Lafreniere Park

Don McLean headlines the event, which also includes the Marine Corps Band and fireworks. Free but VIP parking and passes are available.

St. Charles Parish Independence Day Celebration

WHEN: July 3rd, West Bank Bridge Park in Luling

Annual celebration with a fireworks show to highlight the night, along with food, music, and fun. Free.

Go 4th on the River

WHEN: July 4th, New Orleans Riverfront

Huge fireworks display, red, white, and blue water sprayed from a boat, and CNN will showcase the fireworks display this year. Free.

Light Up the Lakefront

WHEN: July 4th, Mandeville

The fun includes a parade at 3 pm, music from Amanda Shaw at 4 pm, and The Boogie Men at 6:45 pm. Plus a kids' tent, food trucks, games, crafts, and a fireworks show over the lake. Free.

St. Bernard Salutes America

WHEN: July 4th, Civic Center Grounds in Chalmette

Music from Adam Pearce and Epic with food and drinks for sale. Event begins at 5:30 pm. Fireworks. Free.

Madisonville Old Fashioned 4th of July

WHEN: July 4th, Madisonville Town Hall

All-day event along the Tchefuncte with games and fun, followed by fireworks. Free.

Abita Springs 4th of July Celebration

WHEN: July 4th, Abita Springs Trailhead

Family event with music from Four Unplugged, vendors, and fireworks. Free.
