District E just went through a crowded primary race. Nine candidates campaigned for Oliver Thomas' vacant council seat. And after the dust cleared, nine dwindled to two.
Cyndi Nguyen and Jason Hughes emerged as the two top choices, with Nguyen garnering 46% of the vote and Hughes receiving 36%.
With early voting beginning Saturday, November 1st, WWL has conducted runoff debates and interviews for all key races.
The above player is the full audio for the District E runoff debate between Nguyen and Hughes, moderated by Newell Normand and Dave Cohen. Among many issues pertinent to District E, they discuss economic stagnation/opportunity, blight, and crime.
Cyndi Nguyen has already held the role of city council member for District E. She was elected to the position back in 2018, but lost to Oliver Thomas in a 2021 runoff race. Following her term, she's worked for the Regional Transit Authority.
Jason Hughes presently represents District 100 in the Louisiana House of Representatives, a district that includes a section of District E. Hughes is also vice chair of the House’s Appropriations Committee.
