The New Orleans mayor's race will soon be shaping up and heating up.

Both experts say expect an extensive list to choose from before it's all over.
Dubos says in an open race with no incumbent, we could see as many ten entrants into the race.

Qualifying for the mayor's race runs from July 9 through July 11.
Election Day is October 11.

New Orleans Councilman Oliver Thomas was supposed to have announced his intentions by now but no word yet on his status.

Political Analyst, Clancy Dubos, says there are several factors that go into the decision to run and Councilman Thomas has options.

"Number one there's resources that are needed, and he [Thomas] can run for re-election, the At-Large seat, or for Mayor."

Xavier University Sociology Professor, Dr. Silas Lee, says announcing has not timeframe and waiting could be more strategic in nature.

"There's a long time between now and October, and voters aren't paying attention right now."
