“Basically what the mayor has done is flip off the French Market Corporation for all the world to see.”
That was Newell Normand’s assessment Monday of New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell’s ongoing refusal to vacate the Pontalba apartment, a city-owned asset that is supposed to be available to lease but is being “held hostage” by Cantrell.
“Why, Mayor, would you continue to embarrass yourself? Why would you continue to embarrass the citizens of New Orleans and the citizens of the state of Louisiana? Why would you bring embarrassment on the council by compelling them to actually do something?” asked Normand.
“Because whether you believe it or not, the public wants to put this issue to rest. Get your house in order. It is not that difficult.”
