Newell: Migrants are 'laughing all the way to the bank' with Dem-backed plans

Texas is in a stand-off with the feds at the southern border to the United States, but is it a fight that Louisiana should join, too? WWL's Newell Normand took on that topic on his show.

With polls showing that Donald Trump is much more popular on the topic of immigration than Joe Biden, the president is asking Congress for help. And asking Congress for help means asking for American tax dollars.

"At some point in time, it's going to get even worse for you on this front," Normand said, adding that in New York City, hundreds of migrant families are about to get pre-paid credit cards and free hotel stays.

The migrants will sign an affidavit swearing they'll only spend the money on food and baby supplies at the risk of being kicked out of the program. If the program is successful, their intention is to expand it to 15,000 migrant families, Normand added.

In Louisiana, meanwhile, Gov. Jeff Landry went to the U.S. border to see the situation at Eagle Pass. He said he would send troops to defend the border, which Newell said, "will cost you, Louisiana taxpayers."

"What is the mission? What is the mission going to be?" Normand asked, said if the purpose is to show solidarity with Texas, the governor just send a press release about it, not troops. The role Louisiana will play there, the time frame, the size, should be revealed before the governor commits troops, he added.

"Texas is into this initiative in the billions," he said, adding that before anything happens, the governor should be transparent about whether the symbolic gesture will actually do anything to benefit the citizens of Louisiana.
