Following the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling to overturn Roe v Wade, and the subsequent legal challenge to Louisiana’s abortion relate trigger laws, Newell Normand heard some statements from the state Attorney General that really stuck with him. After a court hearing last week that changed the venue for a temporary restraining order challenging the laws that would trigger abortion bans, Jeff Landry said the following outside of Civil District Court in New Orleans:
“If you don’t like the laws of the states, you can move under one to which you like. That’s the greatness about American and that’s the greatness about the decision quite frankly,” Landry said as he addressed reporters about the legal challenges to the Louisiana’s trigger laws which he says are representative of the state legislature’s position and the people of Louisiana’s position on abortion.

Normand said when he initially heard the comments, he became angry, but wanted to wait before taking to the airwaves about it. The more time he gave to process the attorney general’s comments, the angrier he became. Normand believes Landry’s ultimatum approach to state’s law and constitution are very short sighted. Normand thought of wisdom his father passed on to him.
“I also talk about remembering what my dad told me, ‘son always remember what goes around comes around. And it may feel good on the front end, but it’s not going to feel good on the back end when it comes back your way,’”, said Normand.
