Homicides in New Orleans are down 16 percent compared to this time last year.
That decrease is despite 14 people murdered on New Year's Day on Bourbon Street, according to crime statistics released Monday by the New Orleans Police Department.
Instances of fatal shootings are down 72 percent.
The data show decreases in almost every category.
Non fatal shooting incidents are down 47 percent compared to this time last year, and the number of people shot but not killed is down 49 percent.
Carjacking is down 63 percent, and armed robbery overall is down 38 percent.
Auto theft is also down 63 percent.
The only crime category that increased is shoplifting, up nine percent.
