New Orleans Police Chief Shaun Ferguson today announced plans to fight crime in the French Quarter. He says it will not come at the expense of other neighborhoods
“All we are really going to do is shift some of our staffing in our Eight District to focus more on Bourbon Street,” said NOPD Chief Shaun Ferguson. “You will see additional staffing in regards to our mounted patrol as well as additional lighting.”
The chief says they have been arresting violent criminal suspects including people who have taken the law into their own hands by attack people they believe have victimized them.
“And I’m pleading with our citizens, we do not want our victims to become perpetrators,” said Ferguson. “They have taken action into their own hands. And because of their action, they have been arrested. But do not jeopardize your life and do not jeopardize your freedom.”
Ferguson emphasized his plea by asking the citizens of New Orleans to let his police department, the District Attorney, and the criminal justice system do their job.
