New Orleans police say increased traffic enforcement has led to fewer crashes.
According to an NOPD spokesperson, crashes are down 17 percent year-to-date. Meanwhile, crash deaths are down 15 percent from 2024, with the NOPD responding to only 32 fatal crashes in 2025.
Just last week, NOPD officers issued 1,200 citations in 196 vehicle stops.
“Our residents have been clear—they want safer streets,” NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said in a statement. “These results show our commitment to answering that call. We’re going back to the basics—visible, consistent enforcement in the areas that matter most. We’re seeing progress, but our work is far from done. We will keep the pressure on reckless driving and stay present where our community needs us most.”
