For the first time, New Orleans Police Chief Ann Kirkpatrick has addressed a recent round of promotions -- reportedly torpedoed by New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell. Chief Kirkpatrick says the NOPD will re-administer the promotion tests.
"We are going to actually be doing a re-examination, that will be used with outside assessors," she said. "All outside assessors with no connection to the New Orleans Police Department will be doing a re-examination on a certain portion of the test that was of issue to everyone."
NOLA.com reported the mayor rejected the promotions list -- which included two officers who okayed the internal investigation of former police officer Jeffrey Vappie, at one time the mayor's bodyguard.
Kirkpatrick denied that had anything to do with it.
"Oh, golly, that has absolutely nothing to do with it," Kirkpatrick said. "That is something that others have tried to put two and two (together) and say 'that's why this is on hold.' That is not the case."
