The two sides of the Northshore casino debate continue to battle for votes with the final chance for voters to have a say in the matter this Saturday.
Jay Connaughton with Camellia Bay Resort says not only will the casino provide jobs and revenue to the parish and state, the resort will offer amenities St. Tammany Parish currently doesn't have.
"Our Mardi Gras krewes in St. Tammany Parish go to the gulf coast or come to New Orleans to host their balls," said Connaughton. He said Camellia Bay will have the amenities that will keep those events on the Northshore.
"Convention center, ballrooms, live music, rooms, space for outdoor community events, a luxury spa," he said.
But Rick Franzo of Concerned Citizens for St. Tammany says a casino resort is not good for Slidell.
"It's not a destination a city, Slidell will never be a destination city. It's a rooftop family community," Franzo told WWL's Newell Normand. "Nobody living in Idaho or California is going to say 'I'm going to get in a plane and I'm going to go to Slidell."
