An age-old debate on the effects of THC continues as the state legislature has a new bill introduced to ban consumable Hemp with THC products.

The implications spread far according to opponents of the bill who say this could affect those who use the drugs pushing them toward illegal solicitation and losing hundreds of jobs, however supporters tout that without regulation, we are headed into dangerous waters.

Senator Thomas Pressley author of senate bill 237 says he was in the House of Representatives when the bill was passed saying that eight milligrams of THC per serving would be allowed in hemp products and says he has been working since that time to change that.

“I’ve been working on trying to move that back to 0mg per serving.”

He says they questioned if consumers could "get high" on products with this much THC and he says they were told:

“No, you could not.”

Kevin Sabet, national drug policy expert says not only is the amount mind altering, but dangerous.

Sabet says, “We are getting reports of deaths and acute onset psychosis in kids.”

The bill was overwhelmingly passed in the senate, as written, with a 27-9 vote although Senator Pressley says that there is room to meet the hemp industry in the middle instead of a total ban.

The bill is in committee in the house.
