Murder at Metairie gas station

Shots were fired at a gas station on Clearview Parkview in Metairie Friday.

One person was killed. It happened at the Chevron between I-10 and West Napoleon.

Police are looking for a white van with three people inside seen fleeing the scene.

“Turn yourself in,” Sheriff Lopinto proclaimed on WWL's Newell Normand and Tommy Tucker during a call into their show shortly after the shooting. “You better go do it now, because the longer it goes…there were at least three people in the car…I mean people know who this person is, go turn yourself in now and beg for forgiveness because that is about all you got.”

Sheriff Joe Lopinto said, "Nobody needed to lose their life over fricking gas today."

He says a male suspect shot and killed a male victim.

The sheriff said people should not be bringing guns to gas stations.

It comes amid a string of disturbances at gas stations in the regions and people wait in long lines for gas that is short in supply.

In another case, Lopinto says a man was arrested for pulling a gun at a gas station on West Esplanade Avenue in Metairie.

“We learned in Kindergarten not to cut in line. That is what it is coming down to right now, is you are having people cut in line, obviously tensions are high, disturbances are happening, I’ve had at least two incidents where guns were pulled, one where one is killed now, and it is ridiculous,” said Lopinto.

Lopinto this week urged everyone to demonstrate patience under stressful times. He said, "Don't be a gashole."

Lopinto explained that was the term his deputies were using to describe people getting into arguments and fights in long gas lines.
