The Mayor of New Orleans' Mardi Gras Advisory Council says "significant progress" has been made to restore the city's carnival parades to their pre-pandemic routes. Parades start in about three weeks.

"On behalf of all of the members of the Mayor’s Mardi Gras Advisory Council, we applaud the leaders of our city – Mayor Cantrell, Sheriff Hutson, and Interim Superintendent Woodfork – for the significant progress they have made toward safely restoring traditional routes for all parading krewes through providing funding and facilitating law enforcement personnel to complement our own community’s resources," reads the joint statement from council co-chairs Elroy James and James Reiss. "While work remains to be done over the coming days on the finer points of the arrangements, final agreement, and recruiting supplemental personnel, we are optimistic that through their leadership, cooperation, and goodwill, they will make the safe restoration of traditional parade routes for Carnival 2023 a reality for our community."

The only parade set to roll on its traditional route are this time is the Krewe of Endymion, which rolls in Mid City.

Because of the dwindling number of New Orleans Police Officers, most Uptown parade routes were shortened this year to start at Prytania St. and Napoleon.
