Some good news for those of you planning a Good Friday or Easter crawfish boil: prices are staying relatively low.
"You can find crawfish under $3 a pound right now," Louisiana Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain told WWL's Tommy Tucker, adding that he's seen prices as low as $2.95 per pound.
Strain warns that if you're planning to boil crawfish this weekend, don't procrastinate. That's because he expects them to sell quickly, considering the low prices.
"If you're planning on getting crawfish for (Good Friday), you need to go ahead and get them ordered so that you'll have them," Strain said. "Don't get everything set up and then just show up and say you need two sacks of crawfish. So get them ordered right now."
Strain says the good news is, Louisiana is seeing an abundance of crawfish.
"They're very plentiful, and the price is right," Strain said.
But if you can't find crawfish or if you want to change things up, Strain says you have other affordable options.
"You can find shrimp, as well," Strain said. "You can find shrimp under $6 a pound--really, really nice shrimp."
