As threats of moving backward to stiffer restrictions are talked about due to spiking COVID numbers, hundreds of swingers have descended on New Orleans for the ‘Naughty in N’awlins” convention and get together.
Originally scheduled for the summer, the virus pushed back the convention and cut numbers of participants to just more than 10% of those who attended last year.
Tulane Doctor Susan Hassig told the Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate “That's really quite mind-boggling,” she said. “Clearly no public health epidemiologist was involved in the design of this activity.”
Meanwhile event organizer Bob Hannaford defended the decision to the hold the event.
He says adequate spacing and mask requirements are in place for seminars.
Also wristbands identify people who’ve had recent COVID tests.
Nightside is a different matter altogether with erotic balls parties, dances, and a special playroom being held at a downtown swinger’s club.
“While the scheduled events do not require a special event permit from the city, the Department of Safety and Permits reviewed COVID-19 restrictions and safety protocols with the event organizers and expects full compliance from the approximately 250 attendees.”
Hannaford went on to tell the paper: “I think what we’re doing is responsible and correct for these times. There has to be something between shutting down everything and opening up the world with no restrictions.”
