NoLaToya-dot-org delivered over ten boxes filled with signed petitions they say meet and exceed the threshold of signatures needed to force a recall of New Orleans Mayor, Latoya Cantrell.

During a press briefing after they got their receipt for the petition boxes, NoLatoya-dot-org’s Eileen Carter addressed the media:

“Six months ago, it was saddened, sorrowful day because we had filed for the recall of the Mayor of the City of New Orleans.  It’s not something we did lightly.  As you know you all have been on this journey with us for six months.  A lot of people didn’t believe in us, or even hear what we had to say.”

The recall group says they have more than 49,000 signatures.

Organizers of the drive just last week filed suit against the Registrar of Voters Office in Orleans Parish and the Secretary of State because of inaccuracies they say they uncovered as part of research project through a consulting firm.

NoLaToya-dot-org says as many as 30,000 voters listed as active are either dead or no longer living in Orleans Parish since it has been years since they actually voted.

But for now the counting and certifying starts.

And Eileen Carter says this is a moment in the history of New Orleans.

“So many time we’re fearful, and we’ve been living in that type of fear for entirely too long.  Today we are confident that we have enough signatures to recall LaToya Cantrell as mayor of the City of New Orleans.
