New Orleans CIty Councilman Oliver Thomas announced today in a posted video that he is running for mayor.
"I'm not running because I want the title of mayor. I'm running because I want to be the people's mayor," Thomas said.
He explained that many people have been telling him not to run.
"Some people say it's may past. I've owned it. I've taken responsibility, and I've learned immeasurably from it."
Thomas spent time in federal prison for public corruption.
"This city deserves and needs renewal. We need a comeback, and no one understands that better than me."
The councilman says his focus is in on the greater good.
"I'm running to be your Mayor - not for me, but for us."
Thomas joins councilwoman Helena Moreno, retired judge Arthur Hunter, and former New Orleans 911 director Tyrell Morris.
