Interim New Orleans Police Chief Michelle Woodfork today told members of the New Orleans City Council that her department is making considerable progress in key areas.
"Guided by my strategic crime plan, the NOPD continues to focus on reducing violent crime, recruitment and retention, community engagement, and substantial consent decree compliance," the chief told the city council's Criminal Justice Committee.
Woodfork said the department is making headway in curbing crime.
"Violent crime has decreased by 17 percent in 2023 compared to the same period in 2022," she said. "This year, we have seen considerable progress in these areas but we do know there is a lot more work to be done."
