NOPD and JPSO are looking for clues after five people were shot in less than 12 hours across the region.
From shortly before 7:00pm Sunday until just after 6:00am this morning, four people died and two were wounded in separate shootings.
New Orleans Police say it started in the 4500 block of Marque Drive in New Orleans East around 6:45pm.
"A male victim was shot," Sgt. Juan Barnes said in an email. "The adult male victim died at the hospital."
Cops arrested a suspect in that killing, but none of the rest.
Less than four hours later, a man was gunned down in Central City.
"The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred... in the 3300 block of South Saratoga that left one person dead," according to a news release. "At about 10:37 p.m., NOPD Sixth District officers responded to shots fired at the location. Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male subject unresponsive lying on the sidewalk who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the body. The victim was pronounced dead."
Just before 1:00am, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office notified us about a shooting in Marrero.
That one left the male victim with what JPSO called "life threatening" injuries in the 6200 block of Field Street.
It was just before 3:00am that a man was killed in the medical district.
"We are working a homicide investigation at South Galvez and Perdido Street. A male victim was shot at the location and pronounced dead. No additional information is available at this time," according to Barnes.
Then at 6:00am, a victim described as a "teenage male" showed up at the ER with a gunshot wound.
Barnes said, "We are working a shooting investigation that occurred at a yet-to-be-determined location."
This continues a trend of spiking violent crime from last week. It comes amid a previous 17% drop in violent crime in New Orleans for the year after four years of skyrocketing violence.
