“Do not get trapped in the rumor mill.”
That is what New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell said in a social media video where she dispels misinformation about FEMA assistance.

“There is no one that is being denied by FEMA,” Cantrell said. “What they may ask for is additional information, maybe clarification your address and or submitting your claims on your property. But no one is being denied.”
Cantrell says there is no need to issue a citywide mandatory evacuation post storm because it will not prevent residents from qualifying for FEMA assistance.
“There have been so many rumors going around,” Cantrell said. “So many text messages with in accurate information."
Mayor Cantrell says so far, 53,000 households have registered for FEMA assistance.
Homeowners or renters with insurance policies are encouraged to file a claim with an individual insurance provider before filing with FEMA.
Residents can register online at disasterassistance.gov, download the FEMA app, or by calling 1-800-621-3362.
