Angry parents disrupted the Louisiana State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education’s executive meeting. The board was expected to discuss whether or not kids in schools should wear masks per Governor John Bel Edward's statewide mask mandate.

As an administrator announced everyone should be wearing a mask at the meeting, one parent shouted, “I can’t hear you with the mask on,” which provoked a large group of parents to chant, “No More Masks.”

At today’s meeting, all of the board members were wearing masks but many audience members were not. The board is having a difficult time enforcing the indoor mask mandate for the audience.

The debate got heated as parents voiced their frustration over their kids being forced to wear a mask in school.

At the school board’s meeting, state administrators were considering whether or not to accept the Governor’s statewide mask mandate for K-12 schools until the unruly audience left administrators no choice but to prematurely adjourn the meeting.

Governor Edwards insisted his statewide mask mandate does apply to schools and can’t be overridden.
