Biden bashes Trump for his actions on Jan. 6, says he ‘lacked courage’

On Monday, President Joe Biden decided to take shots at former President Donald Trump, criticizing his 2020 opponent for his refusal to intervene and attempt to stop the Jan. 6 riots.

Biden claimed that Trump “lacked the courage to act” while his supporters stormed the Capitol, going as far as to say that he even betrayed the police he had claimed he supported.

“The police were heroes that day,” Biden said from quarantine as he recovers from COVID-19. “Donald Trump lacked the courage to act. The brave women and men in blue all across this nation should never forget that. You can’t be pro-insurrection and pro-cop. You can’t be pro-insurrection and pro-democracy. You can’t be pro-insurrection and pro-American.”

Biden has not spent much time discussing the actions of his predecessor or the House select committee’s investigation of the Jan. 6, 2021 attack. However, in his statement to the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, he shared his thoughts, calling out the hypocrisy of Trump during the insurrection.

Biden’s comments come following the completion of the House select committee’s string of summer hearings last week, the last of which outlined Trump’s inaction while his supporters entered the Capitol to stop the counting of the Electoral College vote.

The committee presented a video that showed Trump refusing to use certain words and phrases in his speech, calling for the violence to stop, including admitting the election was over. In addition, testimony showed that Trump spent the afternoon ignoring aides who implored him to take action while watching the riot on Fox News.

While Biden has not taken much time to comment on the hearing, to the dismay of some within his party, he did not hold back on what happened on Jan. 6 while speaking to the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives.

“Lives were lost. And for three hours, the defeated former president of the United States watched it all happen as he sat in the comfort of the private dining room next to the Oval Office,” Biden said. “While he was doing that, brave law enforcement officers were subject to the medieval hell for three hours, dripping in blood, surrounded by carnage, face to face with a crazed mob that believed the lies of the defeated president.”
